From the very beginnings, BSA has been cooperating with a range of authorities, and, especially, with the Finance and Customs Guard. Within the framework of these cooperations, BSA provides professional support to the relevant representatives of these organisations to cover topics such as use of illegal software and software licensing. The objective of BSA is to provide support on a daily basis to the various units of the Finance and Customs Guard to increase their rate of retracing illegal use of software.
Dr. Gergely Dzsinich added: "Members of the lawyers office representing BSA are practically all the time at the disposal of the authorities. Therefore they handle the requests of the finance and customs guard, the police, the attorney offices, the courts and all other relevant authorities with special priority. The objective of the BSA is to assist the patrol and investigation units, upon an on the spot control, to recognise violation of the law and to increase their attention to possible breaking of the law in relation to use of software."
Last week’s training organised by the Central Hungarian Regional Command of the Finance and Customs Guard fits into the series of cooperation of BSA with the authorities. The newly elected president and representatives of various member companies of BSA also attended the education day. The BSA presentation covered basic software right issues and introduced the negative effects of illegal software use on the economy and employment market. One of the key parts of the presentation covered suggestions on how to recognise the use of pirated software.
"The use of illegal software creates a yearly loss of approximately 28 billion Hungarian forints to the Hungarian state and to the companies, as stated in the May 2009 BSA-IDC Software Piracy Study. If one adds it up with the losses of the other creative industries, it is clear that we speak about an issue that damages the whole country. BSA does not see this as an issue that is only concerned with criminal law. It should also be accepted that the setting up and support of the creative intellectual environment shows one of the most important directions for development. Among our many global members, we are proud to have Graphisoft among our members, a company which many consider as a prime example of the Hungarian creative mind. If the legal and the business environment expressed more support to the creation and the protection of intellectual property, we would be able to come up with more such, positive examples." – said Dr. Gergely Dzsinich.
The Hungarian state and the business actors suffer a yearly damage of about 28 billion Hungarian forints due to the use of illegal software. Therefore it is of utmost importance that the current 42% rate of illegal software should decrease and that the protection of intellectual property should be strengthened further.
